Congrats everyone!!!

Recently I haven’t been posting as much as I’d like to due to many outside forces that seem to pull me in too many directions but specifically away from my computer. So today, instead of adding another Murky Monday rant to my page, since only 2 posts ago I was ranting away and showing my darker side, I thought I’d lighten things up and announce the winners of the On-The-Go Inflatable Potty Seat!  Three cheers (OK four since there are four) for the winners!  Wee! Wee! Wee! Wee!

Did ya’ll like my failed attempt at humor?  (Wee, wee?….Potty seats?…. Ba, da, bump!) See, that’s why I chose Mondays to be Murky because humor and other acts of sheer genius do not flow out of my body easily. Rather its more of a green sludge carried on a wave of negative energy.  Or at least until I get some caffeine in me.

So… on to the happier note!

All winners were chosen with Random.org.  I did have to spin the wheel a couple extra times due a duplicate name being drawn. I couldn’t let one person win three potties… (Yes, there was one lucky kid who’s mom’s name got drawn 3 times!!! Trust me, that was almost more than my Monday brain could handle.) So I spun the wheel again to be able to make things fair and share the potty fun!  But that is also why I’m not sharing any images of the Random.org counter like I typically do. 4 winners plus 2 extra spins would be just too much Random.org…e.ness! And then all of our brains would explode.

About a month ago an opportunity fell in my lap to take a look at the On-The-Go Inflatable Potty Seat.  I saw several other sites doing reviews on these products but I didn’t participate at that point because as of yet my daughter isn’t potty training.  She’s taking her sweet time and I think she likes the velcro strips on her diapers.  Rip, rip, rip.  But nevertheless, through an unfortunate Twitter issue, I was able to become aquatinted with this very unique invention.

Think about it.  An adorable little potty seat that you can take anywhere you go. It’s easy to wipe off and easy to store away when it’s not needed.  When deflated it’s no bigger than a tennis ball. Sound good yet?  How about this, if your bathroom is anything like mine, teeny tiny, keeping one of the plastic box potty training seats in it is rather difficult. Unless you like straddling it and the can at the same time.  Or, if you live in a house that has two stories, this would be a great second room potty seat. But my favorite thing is the idea of being able to take it with me to public bathrooms. Anything that can take the yuck factor out of that is wonderful in my book. As a mom who’s facing potty training I like the idea that I can take it with me and my daughter will be able to recognize and be comfortable with it, and her training can continue even in the big scary public bathrooms.

Awhile back I was given the opportunity to try out the product Boogie Wipes.  If you’re a mom I know you’ve seen these cute little green packages sitting on the counters at baby stores or maybe recently in the sniffle and sneezing, baby Tylenol aisle.  The boogie green package is hard to miss and then the name forces even the most frustrated mom to want to smile a little.  But then you walk away thinking they are just a novelty.  Well, my friends, I am here to say they are not just a basic wet wipe with a cute name.  These things rock!  And they have continue to rock for our family with this rather rough snot and snort season we’ve had.  As they say on their website Boogie Wipes are “Snot your average wipe!”

Since I’ve been trying out Boogie Wipes I’ve been keeping little notes about our usage and thoughts on this product.  Not being one to just rip open a package, take a sniff and a wipe, and declare it useful or not, I like to take my sweet time to be able to get the full appreciation of a product before giving my opinions. Here are my findings:

First a dialog between my husband and I on the first day of use:

Me to Hubby: “I want to know what your first impression of Boogie Wipes is.  You have the more “effected” nose.”

Hubby: “Their wet.”

Me (fighting the urge to roll my eyes) : “No really. I need your input.”

Hubby: “Their kinda soothing.”

Me: “OK, good one.  How do you think they would be the most effective?”

Hubby: “I already told you they were soothing.”

Me (small sigh, eyes remaing steady): “Details babe, I need details.  I can’t read your mind and neither can my readers.”

Hubby (with conviction in his voice): “You should be able to.”

Me (with conviction in my voice): “Bite me.”

******silent staring contest commences******

Me (louder sigh, still eyes remain in my head): “So??? When would you want to use them?”

Hubby: “In the morning.”

Me: “Why in the morning?”

Hubby: “Because that’s when you have to dig in there and get the dried up stuff out.”

Me: (mostly silent except for small gagging noises)

Hubby (smiling at me sweetly): “You said wanted my input.”

Me (left gagging, questioning my judgement, and trying to catch my rolling eye balls): “Why me?”

So there you have it folks.  Hubby’s input if you can call it that.  But little did I know that his first impression would become more of a Boogie Wipes obsession.  Read on further to find out why….

My first impression was a little different and a lot more sane.  I liked the way the fresh scent flavor smelled.  I can smell it on my hands right now and it’s lovely.  I would almost want to use these as hand wipes just so I can have the refreshing smell.  Almost better then any expensive perfume! A PLUS  in the mom world where too many things smell… um… not so fresh and mostly like poop.  On top of the great scent however there are also the facts!  They are made with natural saline to help dissolve boogies unlike dry tissues. And instead of using baby wipes on my daughters face these are hypoallergenic, alcohol free, and have moisturizers like aloe, vitamin E, and chamomile.

EJ even has her own opinions about Boogie Wipes. She didn’t mind at all when I wiped her face clean with one, including her nose, which is always tricky and can make her rather combative and abusive towards her mother.  And they left my baby smelling like the Fresh Scent too.  Baby perfume perhaps?

Since those first couple trial days a package of Boogie Wipes has made itself a permanent home on a shelf next to our tissue box in the kitchen.  And, since the first tragically expressive opinions laid out by my husband, he has become rather possessive of them. For example, today I went to clean some dried oatmeal off my daughters face and the closest wet item to me was the package of Boogie Wipes.  As I started to reach for them my hubby stopped me and told me not to waste them on things they aren’t supposed to be used for.  ”But she’s crusty?” I replied.  He continued to read to me what the package says word for word: “For quick, effective clean-up and relief of stuck on boogies (mucus) caused by the common cold and allergies.” And I am left silent with my crusty child as he walks away with the package tucked safely in his hand.

As far as I’m concerned dried on oatmeal has the same consistency of dried boogies so I wasn’t seeing what the big deal was. But I can certainly see that we will be keeping Boogie Wipes around our house from now on.  And I will also be hiding my own package in my purse for those away from home boogie emergencies!

Did you know that many of the products and techniques we use to make our lives and laundry cleaner can also be making our washing machines dirtier and stinkier? Really?  You didn’t know that?  Neither did I.  I had no clue. Not until I was contacted by a company called Smelly Washer.com about reviewing their product.  Its main purpose, as hinted by the product name, is to help combat that issue that many of us have always taken for granted and called “normal”.  That odd smell that tends to radiate from your washing machine even after doing a fresh load of laundry.  As a shorter person, or vertically challenged as I like to say, I have up close and personal knowledge of this not too great scent every time I literally dive into my washer to retrieve the items at the bottom.  It’s the unmistakable odor of mildew.

OK, so now you’re wondering how in the world you’re washing machine, which is used to make clean laundry theoretically, could be dirty enough to stink? Let me tell you why… using detergents and fabric softeners are the number one reason.  Believe it! They can leave a residue in your washer that can cause mildew and then that lovely mildew odor.  Being environmentally friendly by using cold water is also a culprit because hot water is better at dissolving that residue.  And lets not forget about forgetting about that load of laundry that gets forgotten about and left in the washer for days. Been there done that a few too many times. And of course, my favorite of all mildew causers, because this means I was on vacation, is lack of use. (Ever come home from a vacations and go to start doing all that vacation laundry and notice your washer smells like your dirty clothes bag you’ve been hauling around in your luggage?)

After checking out a couple of the details on Smelly Washer and learning things like:

• It’s all natural with no dyes and fragrances (i.e.. not covering up the scent but actually making it disappear)
• That I could remove that mildew smell from the forgotten towels and clothes that I’m really good at causing… because I forgot them.
• There is 24 treatments in each bottle. Not just 3 like some of their competitors.

That’s when I gleefully said YES! I’d love to give it a try!  About a week later I got my package in the mail and got started… On forgetting a load of towels if you can believe it. Perfect timing right?  So Smelly Washer was going to get a workout on this review.  From reading the easy instructions I learned that it would be better if I cleaned my washer first before trying the load of towels.  Alright, I can do that.  The first thing I noticed, sadly, was how messy the measuring process was.  One cap-full is the dose to a cleaner washer.  The cap to the bottle is a little small and was hard to measure into without dribbling extra product into the washer, but that small issue aside I can absolutely say I love this product!  Next I noticed that there was a surprising lack of fu fu smell from the bottle (again, not covering up the scent but attacking it).  After soaking my washer over night I opened it in the morning to find this funky gray looking water, and after finishing the wash process I was happy to find…. Nothing.  No smell, no dinginess… nothing.  My washer was clean!

Then I proceeded to my load of towels.  I again followed the easy directions and found my towels came out significantly cleaner smelling.  I did repeat the process on the towels (because they were really bad to begin with and they needed some extra loving) and out popped clean, non-mildewy towels.
